Maddalena Fagandini's Time Beat. The BBC Television Interval Signal
Переглядів 50411 місяців тому
The clock isn't genuine, I created the clock in Final Cut Pro. The interval signal was used in the very early '60s. Often used at about 5.40pm. I was about 2 or 3 years old when they used it. It used to frighten me.

I always thought the ELL was like a model railway line I would have liked to have worked on it during its heyday
I guess i was lucky enough to work on it. Interesting line, Wapping was good. Interesting tunnel there! Worked on it till it closed its doors for good! Still, i think the overground has expanded the network greatly!
I love all the comments from the uneducated boomers on here: wanting to go back to a "simpler time", and yet using modern technology to yearn for it...
Gorgeous babies! 🐈🐈🐈💕🥰
Pub O’ Putty-cat! ❤
not a hard hat, ear defeder, goggles or dust mask to be seen. i think we have made progress now
Hats off to these guys. Amazing 🇬🇧
This was originally broadcast on October 23rd, 1978, according the BBC's television schedules.
Crazy that this video is 17 years old! Cute cat tho!!
Fascinating view from the period…
Meanwhile, here in Britain, we wage through two world wars, see millions dead and then spend billions in reconstruction and developing a new infrastructure. We also invest thousands of man hours and many years into peace negotiations and trade agreemeents, to become a founding member of a united Europe, without barriers and without confliction. Years later, we elect a self-serving Prime Minister called Cameron, who guides the nation into a referendum called Brexit, where we literally take a century of political upheaval and throw the whole lot back into the face of all those who toiled, fought and died so that Europe might remain united in solidarity. But not to worry. The UK government has since hired the former PM as the Secretay of State, so he can represent the UK in Europe. You couldn't make it up. The GREAT BRITAIN you see in the Look at Life videos made 60+ years ago, is long, long gone....
Why didn't you emigrate to Vulgaria when you still had your precious freedom of movement ?
Very interesting old docu
Wonderful, Never seen this!
Living in Kent, these were our "bread and butter" units for many years, along with the 2 haps, until the Veps crept in during the 70s. The unrefurbished units were sooo comfortable but I do remember the water slopping to and fro in the early double glazing. Happy memories...
Can't deny Thames made so many great programmes not just for their own interests but that with their fellow franchise holders across the ITV network and for all viewers. Irony in this considering that ITV is now one company and a shadow of what is was before.
Thames really were superb, the ITV region I spent my whole childhood in - I was 18 when they went off air. I felt the loss of TVS at the same time very keenly too, as they made a lot of shows I really liked. I feel for the people affected by this, they really were shafted by a system that was unfair and a process that wasn't clear. Of course, there's plenty who think Thames' downfall was linked to their "Death On The Rock" documentary - Thatcher was furious when that aired.
... WOW WEE! The Cat's Even Curl Up On 'Mine Host's' Chin! 0:36… HAAA HAAAAAAAA HAAAAAA 🏴✌️🌄🥂
i used to live in Canada Water / Surrey Quays. The busses there were loud but cool
Not the Mary Poppins yardstick at 31:14 💀😂

The European Police State.
Awesome documentary
Whilst the EU had many dictatorial issues, please can someone explain the massive benefits since we have left .
The glitch on the first bong kind of says it all
That was when the actual switch was thrown at the BT tower to switch the transmitter feed from Thames’ playout facilities on Euston Road to LWT’s playout facilities on the South Bank. Carlton hired their playout facilities from LWT.
These Wright Eclipse Gemini Volvo B7TLs hoovers roar like they serve Arriva London Routes 2, 66, 123, 150 and 158.
Cultural vandalism of the highest order. The beginning of the end of ITVs regional identity.
I used to love riding the slam doors on the old Charing Cross-Woolwich-Gillingham semi fasts,
ITV plc today is effectively Granada. The endgame probably wouldn't have been any different if Thames had defeated Carlton.
Where are the hats and the gloves? Much respect.
Gosh. Look at that, BBC. Our historical infrastructure built by men, yes MEN and not one of them was wearing a frock. Oh, not a "WOW" or a "THAT'S AMAZZZING!" uttered by a "celebrity" narrator. This is how you make documentaries for growth ups, something you've evidently forgotten how to do.
OMG ! a green £1 note ! ( nostalgia's , not what it used to be ) ............ DAVE™🛑
I think the ITV franchise bidding system was cockeyed, it pitted ITV companies against each other in a bad way, when well meaning companies like Thames deserved to win.
What the Hell was this
It's the distinctive two tone hum from the motors that I remember so well and loved as a kid in the '70s and '80s. A very warm sound. And I remember the floor and window frames. I must have been in a '38 stock too at least once.
Really miss them
All before pussies and government got involved in how a man worked
Now the UK cannot build HS2
We can, the Tories are stopping them and then selling off the land to stop Labour from finishing the job.
It is such an odd feeling watching these old British videos. It is odd as it both sicking and upsetting that I could leave my country without leaving the island. Watching this video all you can see is a quiet and friendly atmosphere, and now we have just stop oil, pro Palestine and BLM shouting nothing but hate.
I remember as a five year old travelling on one of these from Charing Cross to Hastings and the unit having a loud ciren noise before leaving a station.
Star wars was just propaganda and has subsequently been proven to have been impossible. There are a number of reasons, beam diffraction and diffusion in the atmosphere and the impossibility of creating enough energy in an orbital space craft for a beam to have reached the earths surface with enough power to destroy anything large. There were a variety of other factors to, not least of which was the cost and the impractically of maintenance.
The east London line was where I learned to drive underground trains. It was a law unto itself. With trains improperly wired to allow drivers to open and close doors, with cleaners driving trains, and trainees running trains with no trained crew.. it really was the Wild West of the underground.. I loved it. My first day as a trainee was told to go get a train out of the yard and bring into platform when in the platform the crew hadn’t shown up, so was told to run the train. On my own, no guard. And that’s how I found out about the jerry rigged wiring to allow the driver to operate doors from the cab. When I got to the end of the track, the cleaner took over the the driving. He had more experience than me. lol. This was 1982, way before opo trains were allowed.. ..what fun memories.. lol.
The beginning of the end of itv regions
I remember being at Canada Water as a kid not too long before the line reopened as the Overground. My mum showed me how you could just walk onto the platform despite there having been no trains for years. Strange memory
and just look at us now..an entire, once-proud, glorious nation turned into a crime-ridden, third world sewer..literally disintegrating before our very eyes and nothing is done, nothing. Blair and Campbell and the rest of the left-wing perverted leaders of our country wil answer for the vile cesspool they have made of our nation
